not required for to meet the demand envisaged. It does not therefore come within the terms of reference.

No.11 Boiler. This Boiler is required to meet the demand within the next 4 months should it become necessary to operate the existing Low Pressure Turbines. The condition of the Boiler is generally satisfactory with the exception of the front arch which will have to be rebuilt and certain of the instruments.

Nos.3 & 4 Boilers. These are old Low Pressure Boilers and are available as standby plant. It is not intended or anticipated that any serious maintenance should or will be effected, having regard to the age of the plant.

Nos.1 & 2 Boilers. These Boilers are out of commission and certain parts are missing; they are not required to meet the demand envisaged and do not therefore come within the terms of reference.

COAL HANDLING PLANT.

Jeffery Coal Loaders.

All the five Jeffery Coal Loaders are in need of overhaul. Three and one standby are needed to meet the requirements. It is recommended that the overhaul of all five should be considered a C.A.A. liability.

No.1 Boiler House. Although the bucket elevator is in fair condition considering its age, a considerable sum of money could be spent on repairs. The Company do not however propose to make any claim against the Administration for other than normal running spares to maintain the plant in its present condition. Similarly they do not intend to make any special claim in respect of the inter-connecting coal handling plant between Nos.1 & 2 Boiler Houses, which is actually in better condition than the bucket elevator already referred to.

The Coal Mixing Plant attached to the old bucket elevator is in fair condition considering its age and all that is required at present are two new conveyor belts.

Similar observations apply to the Coal Mixing Plant attached to No.2 Boiler House except that the general condition is much better.

No.2 Bucket Elevator. It appears that no attempt has been made to maintain this elevator during the past four years and a considerable sum of money will need to be spent before this plant is in a reasonable state of repair. This is a Government liability.

The belt conveyor in No. 2 Boiler House appears to be in really excellent condition and it is not anticipated that any serious maintenance will be required.

Coal Weigher. The tell-tale equipment on one of the Avery Coal Weighing Plants is missing; this should be replaced at Government expense.

9.

ASH HANDLING PLANT.

The Ash Handling Plant in the old Boiler House is in very poor condition but it is not proposed to do any repairs more than are absolutely necessary to keep this plant running and the Company do not wish any charges to be a Government liability other than such time and material as is spent by the maintenance staff.
